Au recensement de novembre 1999, sa population \u00e9tait de 757 habitants (les Rupisciciens). Rochetaill\u00e9e d\u00e9pend administrativement de Saint-\u00c9tienne, faisant partie de son second arrondissement depuis 1973 avec un statut de commune associ\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barrage du Gouffre d&rsquo;Enfer<\/strong><br>D\u00e9cid\u00e9 en 1858 et inaugur\u00e9 en 1866, le barrage de Rochetaill\u00e9e, dit aussi barrage du Gouffre d&rsquo;Enfer, est un barrage-poids construit par les ing\u00e9nieurs Graeff, Comte et Grandchamp de Montgolfier. Ce fut l&rsquo;un des premiers barrages \u00ab\u00a0poids\u00a0\u00bb d&rsquo;Europe.<br>Les alentours sont un lieu id\u00e9al pour la promenade ou le cyclisme \u00e0 travers sapins et parois rocheuses, avec une cascade (d&rsquo;o\u00f9 vient le surnom du Gouffre d&rsquo;Enfer) et une mont\u00e9e du barrage par un escalier tortueux et des passages taill\u00e9s dans la roche.<br>Il a une capacit\u00e9 de 1 105 000 m3 et est utilis\u00e9 comme retardateur de crue du Furan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barrage du Pas-du-Riot<\/strong><br>C\u2019est aussi un barrage poids r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par les ing\u00e9nieurs Lefort, Jollois et Duplay en 1878.<br>Il a une capacit\u00e9 de 950 000 m3 et permet l&rsquo;alimentation en eau potable de la ville.<br>Entre les deux barrages une \u00e9cluse fut
